Mindy Miller has been with Applied Psychological Services since 2003. She is a managing partner of APS and the designer of this website. She has her Masters in Social Work from Missouri State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Prior to her work at APS, Mindy was a Deputy Juvenile Officer in Jasper County for ten years. Her experience with teenagers and their families as well as the court system and social services gives Mindy a unique perspective.

Mindy uses an eclectic blend of many therapeutic techniques, but focuses heavily on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. She has experience with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorders as well as Reactive Attachment Disorder. Mindy sees a variety of clients, but many referral sources consider her specialty to be adolescent female girls and their families.

Mindy also is referred to by numerous Employee Assistance Programs for short-term therapy. She has attended job fairs, given seminars, and has provided information for many groups of employees, both local and out of state. Short-term therapy is something that Mindy believes in strongly and has been successful in providing therapy and teaching coping techniques for individuals in eight sessions or less. EAP programs are a benefit of many companies in the area for not only the employee, but also their spouses and children. Check with your human resources departments at your job to see if this is a program that would benefit you or someone within your household.

Being personally impacted by the May 22nd Joplin tornado, Mindy has been able to sympathize with the anxiety and loss of other survivors. Mindy has seen numerous individuals and families that were traumatized by this disaster through the loss of family members, homes, employment and even just peace of mind. She was also utilized to do Critical Incident Crisis Debriefing within 24 hours of the tornado. Mindy has lived in Joplin, Missouri since 1993 and is involved in the community. Mindy is married, has six adult children, and six grandchildren, one of whom she and her husband are raising. She is a supporter of rebuilding efforts in Joplin since the May 22nd tornado and volunteers with Americorps as their psychological consultant and the leader of their decompression groups.

Mindy has recently undergone additional training by Lane Pederson, Psy.D., LP, DBTC in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and is a member of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy National Certification and Accredidation Association (DBTNCAA).
