Kris Lowry M.S.W., LCSW

Kris Lowry is a licensed clinical social worker at Applied Psychological Services.  As a therapist, Kris uses his formal education as well as professional and volunteer experience in serving clients to further develop their cognitive and emotional skills by reducing the impact of mental illness with a trauma-informed approach.  Additionally, Kris has a minor in Speech Communication.  He is trained in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and with the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), as a facilitator, both of which are trauma-informed approaches in working with clients who have experienced abuse or neglect.  Kris uses a strengths-based perspective and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as primary approaches.  He enjoys giving an understanding of how the brain works and functions as well as how to work in conjunction with our brain toward progress and healing.

He worked for over 12 years in the child welfare system training and assisting in the licensing process for foster and adoptive families as well as facilitating the placement of children leaving residential facilities into family settings. Kris volunteered for over ten years providing case work and counseling services to people experiencing homelessness and addiction.  He also worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for a number of years.

Kris had the privilege of going to Ukraine to teach families who provide foster care on two separate occasions. He values the dignity and worth of each individual, wears his heart on his sleeve, and is down-to-earth and approachable. Travel, camping, hiking, running, listening to live music, and disc golf are just a few of the activities you’ll find Kris doing in his free time. He is married and has two dogs.
